This is probably going to be one of my longer blog posts. It’s more personal than most. While I try to get to know my clients as much as I can, it’s hard to have the attachment to them in the same way you do a good friend.

A little background … I’ve known Shannon for going on 12 years now. We used to work together in an office in downtown Seattle. My first encounter with her went like this: I was at lunch with another friend of mine, and it was a particularly stressful day. Returning to the office, I threw the front door open a little harder than I should have, not realizing she was standing behind it. The result was her getting hit in the backside with the door, and me being completely embarrassed and apologetic. We’ve been friends ever since.

I’ve been fortunate to have her in my life all of these years. She’s one of my best friends, to the point of being family. We’ve managed to get together for coffee once every few weeks for what seems like forever; to discuss family, friends, jobs, relationships – you name it. I feel like I’ve watched her kids grow up even though I’ve only seen them a few times over the years. We had a fun time shooting Lillian’s senior photos last year, and now she’s heading off to college. It was a good time to get Shannon, Lillian, and Daniel together for some family photos. They are as close or closer than any family I’ve ever known, and the kids are every bit as funny, smart, and wonderful as their mother. I’m glad I had the opportunity to capture this time for them.

E-Session with Blaine and Roger

Blaine, Roger, and I managed to squeeze in their engagement session just a week prior to their wedding. It’s not often that I get to comment on the wedding while posting the E-Session…but, theirs really was a lot of fun. It was held down on the Skansonia on Lake Union, which is always a beautiful location – especially on a sunny summer afternoon. Wedding photos to come soon. We did the session down in the Arboretum here in Seattle, not too far from the Museum of History and Industry.

Interestingly, they met while watching a Seahawks game at a local restaurant here in the Seattle area, and their personalities remind me a little of my wife and I – only opposite. I’ve known Blaine for a little while now, as she was my account executive at CBS radio when I was running some promotions. Congratulations on your engagement – and your wedding!

E-Session with Nicole and Zack

We shot Nicole and Zack’s E-Session at Golden Gardens Park in Seattle. We lucked out in that it almost started raining when we started the shoot. That was the good news. The bad news was, it seemed like half of the city of Seattle decided to come down to a barbecue on the water – that, and there was a wedding in the park building right where we wanted to be. Luckily it was windy enough that it seemed to keep them all inside. Nicole and Zack braved the wind and the cold to get some great shots.

Family Session – Lake Wilderness

I had the opportunity to work with a great local family here in Maple Valley – Jami had contacted me months ago about getting some portraits done. Between scheduling conflicts and the weather, it seems like it took forever to get a date that worked for all of us. We were finally able to get out to the park on one of the nicest days of the year thus far.

E-Session with Whitney and Ross

We dodged the rain long enough to get Whitney and Ross’ E-Session done here at Lake Wilderness. We really lucked out as the spring around here hasn’t exactly been cooperating and they were over here from the east side for Whitney’s bridal shower the next day. Congrats on your engagement guys – I’m looking forward to your wedding!

Reckless Kelly Celebrity Softball Jam 2010

This year was the second annual RKCSJ down in Austin, and I was fortunate enough to be able to attend. The Softball Jam consists of a ton of artists, sports figures and celebrities getting together to play softball, and then put on an all star jam concert. The benefits of the concert go towards the Children’s Miracle Network.

Shenanigans were once again the name of the game during the softball event, and it’s something you just have to experience in person. If you get a chance to make it to the Dell Diamond for the event next year, I highly recommend it – you’ll see a great game, and awesome concert, and best of all, it’s for a great cause.

Catching up on some photo sessions from the last month….we shot Natalie and Wendy’s engagement session at Cathedral Park in Portland. I’ve been wanting to shoot there ever since Michelle and I had our engagement session there almost 4 years ago. It’s a great location with lots of different areas and props for shots. We also happened to luck out with the weather and the light. They were both wonderful to work with, and I’m really looking forward to their wedding later this summer.

Duvall Session – Part 2

Here’s the second installment of our shoot out in Duvall. This is Ashley – while not a senior yet, her folks wanted to get some shots done – and since we were already out and about on the farm, we took the opportunity to do her shoot there as well. She wasn’t, however, as enthralled with the cows as Melissa was.

Senior session with Jerad

Jerad is a local senior out here in Maple Valley, and a varsity player on the Tahoma HS baseball team. He’s a pretty serious looking guy, and his dedication to baseball has paid off as he was recently nominated to the Seattle Times’ All Area baseball team. Congratulations Jerad!
